ulverston hospital and furness general hospital

A £10.5 million project for two NHS Trusts comprising  the  reprovision of healthcare facilities at Ulverston Hospital and improvements to Furness General Hospital in Barrow-in-Furness.

The project for two NHS clients, on two separate sites comprised 13 individual phases carried out to an extremely tight programme. Contractor selection was made by two-stage tender sought on a partially designed scheme with design continuing during on-site construction. The programme was further tightened by the client’s need to change the occupancy and use of two departments immediately following receipt of second stage tenders.

On the Furness General Hospital site the project  included a 24 Bed Rehabilitation Ward, Endoscopy/Urodynamics Unit, 20 Bed Assessment Ward, 36 Bed Daycase Ward, 20 Bed Maternity Ward,  20 Bed Gynaecology Ward, 26 Bed Paediatric Ward a Paediatric Out Patients department, Gynaecology / Antenatal Clinic, and an overnight stay accommodation for 12 Junior Doctors. Details of the Ulverston site development are provided above.

Both hospital sites remained fully operational throughout construction and the project was completed on time and within budget.
